While originally set to be married in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, high-school sweethearts Sonam and Milan shifted their wedding to Southern California because (you guessed it right!) the pandemic situation was (and remains) uncertain. They moved their date MANY times to accommodate a destination wedding but finally decided to get married near Huntington Beach in Pasea Hotel & Spa. “Our wedding planners were so amazing, they made wedding planning seamless,” says Sonam.
The duo met each other in high school through some mutual friends and have been together ever since. “Our sense of humor is what attracted us both to each other. And because Milan is 6′ ft, I was sold,” says Sonam. Milan is 1 ft taller than Sonam so he sometimes has to pick her up to kiss her. He knew she was the one right away, and so did she. “We have so much in common and yet we’re so different,” she adds. Milan is an introvert and Sonam is an extrovert. “We think that is the secret sauce to all relationships. We have been on our journey together for so long, we were able to experience a lot of milestones together, like graduations, new jobs, birthdays, etc,” the bride says. Milan proposed to Sonam on March 5th, 2019, in Prague, Czech Republic. Sonam mentioned that she wanted to be proposed abroad, so Milan made it happen. Milan proposed near the Charles Bridge in Prague and Sonam had no idea. He proposed on the last day of their trip so she wouldn’t suspect a thing.
Sonam planned each one of her wedding looks to perfection. And for the wedding, she knew it had to be Sabyasachi. “I have dreamt of a Sabyasachi lehenga for so long and I really wanted to wear a color that wasn’t bright red or pink. I got lucky when I saw a stunning blue Sabya lehenga from their winter collection. I knew right away that I wanted to get married in this outfit! This was the first store I went to when I was wedding shopping in India and I found the outfit on that day! On 01-01-20,” Sonam tells us.

Before signing off, we asked Sonam about any tips she had for future brides-to-be. Here’s what she said – “Start wedding planning EARLY! I made the mistake of waiting until 2 months before, and there is just so much to do! Especially if you are performing and wanting to have your guests wowed!! Also, ask your friends who had weddings for vendor referrals. It’s important to get feedback on vendors from others before you hire them!”
