5 Most Common Causes of Back Acne In Females:

Exercise:

No, it’s not another excuse to stop exercising. But just to maintain proper hygiene once you are done. If you sweat a lot, don’t wear gym clothes that are too tight. This will just lead to sweat and dirt accumulating on your back wreaking havoc on the skin. Choose clothes that are breathable and sweat absorbent. Here’s a t-shirt that’s decently priced & has quick absorption + drying features. Choose a sports bar that offers the same benefits (like this one here).

Take a shower as soon as you’re done with the exercise. Exfoliate your back using a loofah. Don’t rub too hard though. If your skin type is dry, you can skip the soap at times. Or try this gel-based body wash by Avene.

Another piece of advice is to wear fresh outfits. We know this will increase your laundry load but it can make a huge difference. Keeping as much sweat and dirt off your back is the goal here.

Hormones:

Hormonal acne just doesn’t affect your face. It can have an effect on your back as well. For girls battling PCOS or PCOD, we recommend you consult your dermatologist for the issue. The problem here is internal, so you need to fix it. External solutions are just a short-term fix for you. Have a conversation with your doctor on how to handle the situation.

Yet again, if you are prone to monthly acne flare-ups. It can show up on your back as well. To steer clear of them, we suggest you maintain extra care and precaution at that particular time of the month.

Dandruff & Scalp Infections:

When you get acne, dandruff, or scalp conditions being the reason might be the last thing to pop up in your mind. But it’s the primary cause of acne problems on the forehead, along the hairline, chest, and upper back. Start using an anti-dandruff shampoo immediately. Consult a dermatologist to find the right products for your hair depending on the condition of your scalp.

Furthermore, even your conditioner can cause your back to break out. The residue from it can clog the pores. So you either wash it off by turning your head upside down or rinse the back after you are done.

Acne-Prone Skin:

Are you someone who has struggled with acne problems for like forever? Unfortunately, skin at the back is particularly prone to acne, which can cause bacne troubles. It is also very thick, which means more piling up of dirt and sweat in the pores. All of this is made worse with overactive oil glands. Check on your diet:

‘You are what you eat’ applies to all your skin and hair woes, including female back acne. We all have some foods that act as acne triggers in our bodies. As for me, it’s sugar and milk. I can have buttermilk or any other dairy products, but the day I have milk, I am sure to break out the next day. You’ll have to figure those triggers for yourself. The most common ones are sugar, dairy, and carbs. Try to eliminate them for a week and see if you notice a difference. Meanwhile, try to include 5-10 different kinds of fruits and vegetables in your diet daily and consume more healthy fats.
