Bollywood’s favorite power couple turns 2 today. Here's how their relationship unfolded over the years:
Deepika & Ranveer’s romance started 6 years ago on the sets of Ram-Leela. The two never made their relationship public, but some very strong rumors continued swirling every now and then. Deepika also revealed that the pair were engaged for 4 years before they tied the knot. And only the couple’s family, parents and sisters, knew about it.
The duo decided to get married right after Padmaavat was released. No details were revealed, except the date and the couple were seriously tight-lipped about their private affair. From making their guests cover the phone cameras with stickers to commissioning patrolling powerboats for paparazzi, they made sure no pictures were made public until they gave the nod.
Right before leaving for their wedding, Deepika had a Nandi puja in her home town of Bangalore and Ranveer hosted a Haldi ceremony. The guests and the couple landed in Italy on November 12. The same day was a small welcome dinner and an engagement party. Next day, a mehendi ceremony was held, followed by a Konkani wedding ceremony and an Anand Karaj, honoring Deepika & Ranveer’s families respectively. Let’s take you through the pair’s wedding timeline:
The couple started their destination wedding festivities with a mehendi ceremony. The venue for the wedding was the scenic Villa Del Balbianello. It’s a beautiful property that has served as a monastery eight centuries ago and as a location for popular Hollywood movies like Ocean’s Twelve, Casino Royale and Star Wars. Deepika & Ranveer's mehendi pictures were the first snaps released from their union and as expected, took the Internet by wildfire.
The bride was seen sitting comfortably surrounded by cushions, tea roses and a lakeside background. With only the closest family members around, the couple danced and savored their first event to the tee. Deepika always is the one who upholds her Indian traditions with respect and never fails to stick to them. And so for her wedding, she opted for a maximalistic henna design, featuring beautiful lotus motifs, jaal designs and peacocks.
Ranveer, on the other hand, just got his hands etched with a diya $ Deepika’s name in Hindi. The couple twinned in beautiful sorbet hues with outfits custom-made from Sabyasachi. Deepika wore a gorgeous Sabyasachi kurta paired alongside a matching dupatta and a deep red shawl. She teamed the attire with a low romantic bun, oversized earrings and satlada haar. While Singh picked a printed angrakha with a maroon jacket.
Konkani Wedding Ceremony:
Deepika & Ranveer always plan their important events keeping in mind their distinct cultures. Starting off with honoring Deepika’s roots, the couple hosted a beautiful Konkani wedding ceremony against the beautiful backdrop of Lake Como. Traditional Konkani weddings have several light-hearted games included, as we can see from the pictures too. Our favorite from the album is the one where Deepika feeds Ranveer a ladoo, while he looks all shy and in love.
The bride’s attire was chosen by her mother from a Bengaluru-based heritage store called Angadi Galleria. The shop has been known to preserve South Indian weaves for almost 600 years. Padukone’s burnt orange Kanjeevaram saree took 45 days to complete and features pure zari threads. Elevating her traditional look was the South Indian temple jewellery consisting of mathapatti, elaborate choker, rani haar, jhumkas and a stack of kadas. Ranveer, being a dapper groom, wore a white and gold dhoti set for the nuptials. Scroll to see some of the best candids from the special occasion.
On November 15th, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh tied the knot in a traditional Anand Karaj’s ceremony to honor Singh’s Sindhi heritage. The attention seeker of the ceremony was surely Padukone’s decadent lehenga custom-made by maestro Sabyasachi. A rich red lehenga made in pure silk and an over-the-head dupatta inscribed with ‘Sada Saubhagyavati Bhava’ incarnation was literally a sight to stare at!
Bride accessorised her lehenga with a Rajasthani mathapatti, elaborate necklace, chandbali earrings, kaleerein and a heavy duty nath. However, it wasn’t just the bride who went all in with jewellery, Ranveer also paired his vermillion sherwani with a necklace made with rubies and a jadau necklace. Post their serene wedding in Italy, the couple hosted a series of receptions for their guests in Bangalore and Mumbai. The first one was held in Deepika’s home town for her side of the family at the lavish Leela Palace hotel. Dripping with royalty, Padukone picked a gold silk saree from Angadia Galleria. The simple saree was a true match to Deepika’s simple and elegant style. She spruced her ensemble with green emerald jewels, a sleek bun highlighting her sindoor, zero neck blouse and a low bun featuring fresh mogra flowers. Ranveer color contrasted his Mrs. in a black and gold sherwani by Rohit Bal. Taking you inside their opulent reception with the following pictures.
The week Ranveer and Deepika hosted their reception parties was probably all the nation could talk about. After flying to Mumbai, they hosted a reception for their close friends and family. Breaking the norm of not wearing white at weddings, Deepika wore a neutral white chikankari saree with a big, princess veil, and picked chandbali earrings and heavy choker set to accentuate the look. For makeup, she strayed away from her usual natural look this time to a bronzy, highlighter look. Ranveer wore a similar colored sherwani from Rohit Bal with a matching dupatta to add a royal touch. The couple who have been long applauded on-screen made a beautiful off-screen duo as well. A match made-in-heaven, it’s hard to not stare at their pictures and want to have the same kind of love in our lives as well.
Saving the best for the last, Deepveer hosted a star-studded Bollywood reception. After a bunch of traditional Indian ensembles, Padukone opted for a deep red shimmery gown for her last reception party and dazzled all her fans. She chose one of her favorite designers, Zuhair Murad, to design her outfit for the event. Featuring a detachable gown, high-low hemline and a red veil - there’s nothing to not love about this breathtaking ensemble. Ranveer Singh, on the other hand, sported a black tuxedo with framed glasses for the party. Taking you inside the Bollywood A-listers soiree with the following pictures.
On the couple’s first year anniversary, Deepveer marked the occasion by visiting two popular temples in India - Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh and Golden temple in Punjab. It seemed fitting to include these pictures into this blog, so here you go!
Ending it with some of their first appearances as husband & wife and a few dreamy snaps of Padukone’s 3 crore emerald-cut engagement ring!
