5 Homemade Face Masks All Brides-To-Be Must Use Before Their Wedding!

When it comes to prepping up your skin for being the blushing bride-to-be, some of the best ingredients can be found in your kitchen. Our moms, grandmoms, and mausis are proof that there’s nothing our skin loves more than some good old whipped up masks made straight out of the kitchen ingredients. While you may be tempted to splurge a lot on salon facials and expensive creams (no judging! we know you are a bride-to-be and investing in skincare will matter more now than ever), there is no harm in taking a step back and trying the popular homemade masks that do wonders for your skin.

Fruit Mask:

Packed with vitamins and minerals, fruits are not only great for your health but can do wonders to your skin when applied topically. Here are 6 best fruits to apply to your skin:

  • Papaya – gently exfoliates skin and is great for premature wrinkles
  • Banana – hydrates the skin and cleanses it from deep within
  • Strawberries – helps with removing dead skin cells and prevents acne
  • Pomegranate – increases blood flow and helps in increasing cell turnover
  • Apple – works great for skin pigmentations, boosts collagen production
  • Orange Juice – evens out skin complexion and prevents any UV damage

You can also mix any of these fruits together and apply on your face. If you have time, it’s best to massage your face for 5-10 minutes with the pulp. It will boost blood circulation while making nutrient absorption of the mask better. You can also add honey, milk or curd to your mask to further enhance its benefits.

Next time, when you are eating any of the fruit mentioned above, keep some aside and apply it on your face first. Indulge in your delicious fruit while you have the mask on and wash it off after you are done. Isn’t it such a quick and easy way to achieve that bridal glow you’ve been dreaming about? We think so!

Multani Mitti Face Mask:

Buy this pack here.

Multani Mitti or fuller’s earth has been used for centuries by Indians as a natural remedy for all skin ailments. Whether it’s acne, dull skin, uneven skin tone or pigmentation – multani mitti can help with almost everything and anything. Here’s a multani mitti face mask brides-to-be should include in their bridal regimen:

  • 1 tbsp Multani Mitti
  • 1 tsp Orange Peel Powder
  • 1 tsp Besan or Gram Flour
  • A pinch of turmeric
  • Milk or rosewater or coconut water to mix

It’s a myth that you shouldn’t use multani mitti if you have dry skin. Even those who suffer from dry skin have to suck out impurities from their face, it’s just they have to make sure they are hydrating it at the same time. And so here’s a perfect multani mitti face mask for our dry skin beauties.

  • 1 tbsp Multani Mitti
  • 1 tsp Orange Peel Powder
  • 1 tsp Oatmeal Powder
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 1 tsp Curd
  • Rosewater

Pro Tip: While washing off the mask, wet your face just a little and massage the mask for around a minute or two before rinsing off completely. This acts as a scrub and will help in removing dead skin cells from your facial skin.

Oats Mask:

Fed up of harsh cleansers ripping up your skin of natural oils and damaging its pH? Ugh! Enters oatmeal! Oats are natural cleansers. They have compounds called saponins, which act as natural cleansers. That’s not all oats can do though. They are excellent exfoliators and balance out oil production. Oatmeal also has natural emollient properties, which means its a natural moisturizer. It’s an all in one solution – it cleanses, nourishes and heals! So, here’s an oatmeal face mask for brides-to-be to try:

  • 1 tbsp Grounded Oatmeal
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 1 tsp Curd or Rose Water (latter if you have oily, or acne-prone skin)
  • Apple or Banana Puree

Keep the mask for 15 minutes and rinse it off with plain water. Apply a light moisturiser afterward.

Coffee Mask:

Well, coffee lovers, you would be glad to know that your beloved caffeine dose isn’t just a source of energy and enthusiasm for you daily – it can also make your skin brighter and healthier over time. Here’s another reason to be thankful for this amazing ingredient in your life.

Coffee is a powerful source of antioxidants – even more than green tea. This means that when applied directly on your face, it can help with reducing the effects of free radicals on skin like pollution, harmful sun rays etc. and promote cell turnover. It’s also a popular ingredient in eye creams because it boosts blood circulation, which reduces under-eye puffiness and dark circles. Another beauty benefit of coffee is its ability to smoothen out and tighten the skin. This is why it’s recommended for anyone struggling with cellulite.

Here’s an easy-peasy coffee scrub all brides-to-be should try:

  • 1 tbsp of Coffee Powder
  • 1 tbsp of Honey

Apply this paste on your face and gently massage for a minute. Don’t massage around the eyes as skin around there is quite sensitive. Leave it on for 10 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. It acts as a scrub so you can precede it by a mask. It will be like an at-home pampering session and your skin will thank you for all the love.

Potato Mask:

The last but not least on the list is potatoes. This versatile vegetable works wonders for dark spots on your skin including dark circles. When asked, most models and actresses swear by chilled potato slices to reduce the appearance of dark circles. Potatoes contain an enzyme called ‘catecholase’ that helps in brightening the skin and warding off wrinkles.

Incorporating potatoes in your skincare routine is quite easy. For using them on eyes, just cut thin slices and keep it in your fridge for around 5-10 minutes. Apply it on your eyes for 15 minutes. Do it daily for around 10 days and you’ll start noticing a difference. For face, grate the potato and use a spoon or your hands to take the juice out. Now, apply it directly on your face for 10 minutes or mix it any of your multani mitti or oatmeal face mask.

Before starting to use any of these homemade masks, make sure you do a patch test. At times, some ingredients may not suit you! Relax, that doesn’t mean that you will have a crazy reaction like a red rash or any other sort of permanent damage. It’s just that it might lead to a small pimple here and there.

Another thing to keep in mind is that natural ingredients might take time to work (around 2-3 months) but they are so worth it. The results are amazing, cost-effective and (the best one) don’t go away when you stop using the product.
